Outreach

MASH seeks to link and generate an impact in coastal educational communities of the Los Lagos region, as well as with seaweed producers.

It plans to provide training in seaweed cultivation to marine biologists and professionals of the area.

MASH's outreach strategy will focus on four main lines:

1.- Application of basic research findings in real aquaculture conditions.

2.- Education in Applied Sciences, based on a course on seaweed cultivation aimed at seaweed farmers, seedling providers, marine biologists, among others.

3.- Marine Agronomy for Kids (MAK), a mentoring program that seeks to sensitize boys and girls from schools located in coastal areas to marine sciences in general, and sustainable aquaculture in particular.

4.- National Seaweed Biobank: based on the SEPA culture collection, in which there is active collaboration with IFOP to develop tools and protocols for its creation. MASH will allow this process to be accelerated by creating and optimizing detection (that is, genotyping and phenotyping tools), as well as consolidating the current collection.
